finally finished and photographed

Finished this a few weeks ago but getting round to photographing it took a while longer. It takes a surprising amount of material to make something like this and in the end about 25 different juice cartons were diverted away from landfill to make this one little basket.

Bindweed Basket

This is the original bindweed basket that gave the site its name. Its tough as old boots and has held it's shape in spite of rough treatment.

metal packing straps

straight plaited from metal packing straps and embellished with a bit of spring from a discarded settee, these two baskets are used as garden lanterns.

a better picture

Here's a picture of the same basket with a few shadows to give a bit of a sense of 3 dimensionality.

prunings - random weave passionflower

The picture is not giving many clues away here of scale or depth. It was taken with a flash, which I think is what flattens it so much, finding a way of photographing these random weave types that shows them well is really challenging. The ones I did earlier were out of focus so I took these in the dark. Not ideal.
Dimensions wise it's:
100cms across
75 cms front to back
18cms high at the front
42cms high at the back

booty

More bark for the WIP. I think its Aspen. Taken from trees which had been weed whackered down and left at the side of the path.
It wasn't a hundred percent freshly cut, so was a bit harder to peel than living or fresh stuff, but it came off fairly cleanly.

mainly baskets

I'm planning to move all my basket related stuff here and freeing up degzdesigns for purely permaculture and allotment stuff -- I'm not a prolific maker so there probably won't be that many posts.

I think papermaking is closely enough related to end up here. Some other fiber arts stuff might creep in too. There might be a bit of talk about waste/resources too, since most of my basketry and art materials are diverted from the waste stream.
plus I can show you stuff that inspires me by other folk and keep a list of useful blogs.

I've got degzotherstuff as a place for more general stuff I've been up to, random photos, sketches, land doodlings, stone balances etc. I don't know where else I'll go with that.
